Has Next Generation Data achieved PUE parity?

‘Next Generation Data (NGD) claims it is the first data center operator in the world to guarantee clients a perfect power usage effectiveness (PUE) ratio, thanks to a rooftop solar farm which powers its passive cooling systems. Analysts have criticised the claim as greenwash.

NGD claims it can contractually commit to offering customers a PUE of 1.0 at its Newport (Wales) facility, through a combination of sustainably sourced mains power and free cooling systems run on solar power. Working with utility npower, it has installed a rooftop solar panel farm at the ts 750,000 square foot facility in South Wales, capable of generating one million kilowatt hours (KWh) of ‘green’ electricity per year (that’s an average power of about 100kW, or enough total energy for 240 homes).’

Microsoft announces new OS ‘super-patch’ going live tomorrow

Microsoft has announced a major set of OS patches to go live for update tomorrow. The company announced 16 new security bulletin’s of which five have been flagged as critical and the OS’s covered range from IE6 and Windows Server 2003 SP2 on to IE11.

Details here

From The Register:

“The other critical bulletins address bugs in Windows itself, although just how severe the flaws are depends on which version of the OS you’re running. No version is completely safe, however – even the Windows 10 Technical Preview will need to be patched.

Four of the five critical bugs are said to allow remote code execution, while the last could allow an attacker to gain administrative privilege on a vulnerable machine. Several of the less-severe flaws allow privilege elevation, as well, while others allow attackers to bypass OS security features.”
